Good Evening Lafayette Families,

This is your principal, Mrs. Wheeler, with a few important reminders for the week.

Today’s message will be the last regularly scheduled Sunday message as our 2022-23 school year is coming to a conclusion this Friday, May 26th.

On Monday, May 22nd, it will be our last 8:30AM to 3:15PM schedule.  Starting Tuesday, May 23rd we will use our early dismissal schedule. That means that Tuesday, May 23rd till Friday, May 26th we will dismiss each day at 12:45PM. Friday, May 26th is also our last day of school.

Tuesday, May 23rd  will be our Fifth grade Moving Up Ceremony.  It will be held in the courtyard at Lafayette Elementary and begin promptly at 4:30 pm.  A separate message will be sent tonight with more details.

May 27th - August 6th will be our FCPS Summer Break. Summer school will begin on June 5th and on July 5th, our Summer Scholars program will begin.

Parents, if you received a letter or phone call identifying your child as needing to attend summer school, please know that we are partnering with our local YMCA to provide the Power Scholars Academy Program. It consists of academic learning and support in the mornings and then activities and field trips in the afternoon. If your child was recommended for this program and you signed them up, please plan to attend an informational parent night with the YMCA on Wednesday, May 24th at 5:30PM in the Lafayette Elementary School cafeteria.

Reminder for parents to pick up any unused medications from the school nurse by the last day of school. Medications that are not picked up must be destroyed per school policy. If their child is staying for a summer program, they must inform the school nurse, so their medication is not inadvertently destroyed.

Field Day is tomorrow, Monday, May 22nd! If you sign up to volunteer, please check-in at the front office to receive your volunteer sticker.

There are still 10 slots for the afternoon shift, use the link below to sign-up.

As we prepare to conclude the school year, I want to recognize the incredible work that our students have done to make gains in their learning. You worked hard and we feel confident that you are ready for next year.  To our fifth graders, we say goodbye and we will miss you, but we are also excited for you and the journey that awaits you at Walker-Grant Middle next year. You will do great things and continue to excel in your learning. To all our students returning next year, we hope you have a wonderful summer and we look forward to seeing you in August for another great school year. To our Parents, thank you for your support throughout the year and the work you did to continue your child’s learning at home. To our Teachers and Staff, thank you for your tireless efforts to set Lafayette and all its students up for success. You have moved the needle forward and gotten well underway towards closing learning gaps and getting us many steps closer to the high achieving school we envision and that our students and community deserve.

Let’s make this last week of school a week of learning and fun as we celebrate the conclusion of a hugely successful school year with the time we have left together.

I hope everyone has a wonderful summer.

Mrs. Wheeler
