Weekly Update from Principal Wheeler, 1/16/2022

LES principal Courtney Wheeler.

Good Evening Lafayette Lions,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long holiday weekend with family and friends.  This week is short for students as FCPS has a teacher workday on Friday, January 20th.  Students will not be in school that day.

This week we continue our Winter Growth and PALS assessments. The schedule for this upcoming week is posted below.  Please encourage a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast on assessment days.

January 17th: 3rd Grade Math Winter Growth Assessment

January 18th: 5th Grade Math Winter Growth Assessment

January 19th: 4th Grade Math Winter Growth Assessment

We will have our January PTA meeting this week on Wednesday, January 18 at 6:30 pm in the library.  Use the zoom link below if you are unable to attend in person.  Also, a huge thanks to everyone that supported our Mellow Mushroom Spirit Night last week.  It was so nice to see everyone and I hope you enjoyed your food.

School attendance matters as a missed school day equals missed instruction. A reminder that any child who attends school (even for part of the school day) is counted as present and can receive valuable instruction.

Our goal is to partner with families so we can help each and every child receive as many learning opportunities as possible during the school year so they can stay on track with their learning.

If you would like any support please do not hesitate to reach out to our counseling staff or the administrative team.

In the spirit of the holiday and celebration of the teachings and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I leave you with one of my favorite quotes:

“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”             -Martin Luther King Jr.

Have a great evening.

Mrs. Wheeler
