Weekly Update from Principal Wheeler, 1/22/2023

LES principal Courtney Wheeler.

Good Evening Lafayette Lions,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend with family and friends.  This week is a full week for students, and I would love for us to hit 95% or greater of our students in attendance.  A reminder that any child who attends school (even for part of the school day) is counted as present and can receive valuable instruction.

This week we will administer any needed make-up Winter Growth and PALS assessments. Please encourage a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast on assessment days.

  • Tuesday, January 24th: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Reading Winter Growth Make-up assessments
  • Wednesday, January 25th: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Math Winter Growth Make-up assessments

Final reminder that family Life classes begin this week for all students.  All families are encouraged to review the VDOE Family Life standards linked below.  If you would like to opt your child out of family life, please contact eflynn@cityschools.com.

Next week, James Monroe National Honor Society will begin their Carnation Sale.  Students may visit the table in the front lobby from 8:00 am - 8:30 am the week of January 30th - February 3rd.  Carnations are $3.00 each and may be purchased with cash or check(payable to JM NHS).

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at 540-310-0029.

We can't wait to see you tomorrow and look forward to another wonderful week at Lafayette.

Have a great evening.  Mrs. Wheeler
