Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update

Good Evening Lafayette Families,

I hope this email finds you well and that you had a fantastic weekend enjoying the unusually warm weather we experienced last week. As we gear up for another week ahead, I wanted to share some important updates and reminders with you.

Student Growth Assessments (SGA) for grades 3-5 will continue this week. It's crucial that your child arrives at school on time and is present on the day of their assessment. We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, causing a student to miss their assessment. If this happens, please ensure to submit an attendance note to communicate the reason with the school. We will promptly schedule a make-up session for any missed assessments.

The testing schedule is as follows: - 5th grade Math: Tuesday, January 30th, test beginning at 9:30 am - 4th grade Math: Wednesday, January 31st, test beginning at 9:30 am - 3rd grade Math: Thursday, February 1st, test beginning at 12:30 pm

Tomorrow, on Monday, FCPS will host its division-wide Spelling Bee. We wish the best of luck to our Lafayette representatives participating in this event! You can tune in to watch the Spelling Bee live online at 9:00 am using the following link: Spelling Bee Live Stream Link

Thursday marks the beginning of February, and we're kicking off the month with FCPS "Get Moving Night" at Hugh Mercer Elementary School. Information about this event was sent home in Friday folders, but you can also access it through this link: Get Moving Night Flyer (1).pdf. During this event, we'll also take the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the start of Black History Month. Throughout February, we have numerous school-wide activities planned to honor the invaluable contributions of Black American individuals throughout history.

Additionally, Family Life Education classes will commence tomorrow for LES students. Families are encouraged to review the VDOE Family Life standards, which are linked here: VDOE Family Life Education Standards of Learning. If you wish to opt your child out of Family Life classes, please complete the form linked here: Opt-Out Form

Thank you for your attention to these important matters. We appreciate your continued support in ensuring the success and well-being of our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Wheeler
