Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update

Good evening, Lafayette Families,

We are so excited to welcome you back for the 2024-2025 school year. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces at our orientation on Thursday evening, and we can't wait to have everyone together this coming week.

Monday, August 5th, is transition day for our Kindergarten, sixth grade, and ninth grade students. All other students will begin school on Tuesday, August 6th. Parents/guardians are not permitted inside the building to walk their student to class. We have lots of staff members eager to help them get breakfast and find their classroom.

Our school day begins at 8:20 am and ends at 3:15 pm. Students riding the school bus will enter through the bus loop doors, and car riders will enter through the gym doors. Please remain in your vehicles and allow the school staff to assist with getting your child out of the car to keep our car rider line moving efficiently. If you arrive after 8:20 am and the gym doors are closed, you will need to escort your child into the building and sign them in with our front office staff.

For afternoon car riders, please ensure that you have your car rider tag clearly displayed for staff to see. If you need a car rider tag, please contact the school, and we will ensure you receive one.

We want to remind you of the new FCPS cell phone policy. With the new policy, cell phones are prohibited in school and on school buses for elementary-aged students. We ask you to work with your child(ren) to help them understand that school is not a place for cell phone use.

To help your child prepare for school, please review our LION P.R.I.D.E. foundations, attached for your reference. This will help them better understand what is expected of them on a day-to-day basis while at school. LION P.R.I.D.E. Foundations

We look forward to partnering with you for another exciting year at Lafayette Elementary. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out at 540-310-0029.

Best regards,
Mrs. Wheeler
