Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update

Good evening, Lafayette Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather!

As we enter our fourth week of school, I wanted to share some important updates and reminders with you.  With the back-to-school season also comes the inevitable wave of sickness. Please use our attendance note link to communicate any absences due to illness or unforeseen circumstances. This helps us stay connected and work together to support your child's success. Transportation changes should be submitted using our transportation link by 2:30pm to ensure our office staff has enough time to communicate any necessary adjustments before dismissal. Additionally, all early pick-ups must be completed by 2:30pm. Transportation Notes

Interim reports will be sent home on September 9. Please be sure to check PowerSchool for any missing assignments and to stay updated on how your student is doing in class.

Starting Monday, August 26, we will be kicking off our SchoolStore program to help raise money for our school. Your student should have brought home an envelope explaining how the program works. Parents, please take a moment to read over the information on how you can participate. Your student will earn a participation prize when they return the filled-out envelope to school, and they can earn even more great prizes when your family and friends get involved. Thank you for your support!

Tomorrow, we will be conducting our first lockdown drill of the year. Please take some time this evening to discuss this with your student and remind them that it is just a drill, but it's important for us to practice and take it seriously.

Join us this week for our Family Connections Night on Wednesday, August 28 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm. This is an excellent opportunity to see what your student has been working on so far. You’ll have the opportunity to visit all classrooms and special area teachers. Our PTA will also be present, selling spirit gear. We hope to see you there!

  • September 9: School Board Meeting at 7:30pm

  • September 16: First early dismissal day of the school year (school ends at 12:45pm)

  • September 17: SPECIAL EVENT — Viewing of What I Wish My Parents Knew at JMHS starting at 5:30pm (more information will be available on our website and sent home) — R

If you’re interested in volunteering at any point this school year, please fill out the attached volunteer form and TB screener and return them to the main office.
