Principal Wheeler's Weekly Update

Good Evening Lafayette Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed a restful weekend and is ready for another week of learning as we prepare for our end-of-quarter benchmark tests. Below is the schedule for benchmark testing:

  • October 1: 2nd, 4th, and 5th Grade Reading

  • October 2: 3rd Grade Reading (Make-up testing for 2nd, 4th, and 5th Grades)

  • October 8: 1st - 5th Grade Math

  • October 9: 4th Grade Virginia Studies, 5th Grade Science

  • October 10 - 11: Make-up sessions for all grades

** Kindergarten will be administering their math benchmark throughout the testing window.

Families, please remind your child of the importance of being present and focused during this time. Our students are here to learn and prepare for their future, not to disrupt the classroom environment. I encourage you to review our Lion Pride expectations with them, emphasizing what respectful behavior looks like in the classroom, cafeteria, hallways, and on the bus.

October is Bullying Prevention Month, and we have a series of activities planned to promote kindness, inclusivity, and awareness throughout our school community. To kick things off, Wednesday, October 2nd will be "Hat Day"! I can't wait to see everyone participating and sporting their school-appropriate hats.

Our counseling department will also be actively involved throughout the month. They will be leading focused Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, facilitating student-led announcements to promote anti-bullying messages, organizing Project Connect spirit chains, and planning additional spirit days to engage everyone.

Let’s all do our part to make this month impactful by fostering an environment where every student feels safe, supported, and valued. Thank you for helping us build a culture of kindness!

Upcoming Dates:

  • October 1 - October 11: Benchmark Testing Window

  • October 2 @ 4-8pm: Blue Cow Spirit Night

  • October 3: No School (Student Holiday)

  • October 10: End of 1st nine weeks grading period

  • October 14: No School (Student Holiday)

  • October 16: Unity Day — Everyone wear orange!

As always, we look forward to another productive and positive week. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Your partnership is vital in ensuring the success of every Lafayette student, and we appreciate your ongoing support!

Warm regards,

Courtney Wheeler
